In the future, Fragrance Engineers will create the scents of the future, using cutting-edge science and sustainable engineering. By 2050, the majority of fragrances will come from renewable sources, for example lab-grown materials, botanicals cultivated in vertical farms and recycled waste products such as orange peels, coffee grounds, or wood shavings.
These engineers will develop safe, cruelty-free ingredients that give everyday products their unique scents, while protecting biodiversity. Artificial intelligence could be used to predict new fragrance combinations or personalised scents, and to optimise every stage of the production cycle to reduce environmental impact.
Combining chemistry, technology and creativity, this role will define the sustainability of the beauty industry.
