In the not-so-distant future, a prosthetic design engineer could be making super-smart, almost magical artificial limbs. The materials could be soft, stretchy and self-healing, automatically adjusting to fit perfectly. Sensors might track health, alert doctors if something is wrong and even give haptic feedback, such as feeling textures or temperatures. Engineers could also design limbs that grow or change shape as people grow, or work in space or underwater, making movement easier and more natural.
